For the Kelsey excavations of 1925, we have general registry cards for ceramics with basic descriptions. A small sample of urns and various sherds were donated to the British Museum (Hall 1927). Of the thousands of urns excavated and of the hundreds designated for further analysis, none were allowed to be transferred to Kelsey for study in Ann Arbor. After nearly a decade, D. B. Harden was able to retrieve a few representative urns (Harden 1937), which are now accessioned in the Ashmolean. From the de Prorok and/or Kelsey excavations, Horton O'Neil absconded with some nine urns now accessioned into the KMA collection, as well as stamped amphora handles held by the HAM.

For the Stager excavations of 1976-79, we have a general pottery registry, numbered with prefix P- recording all ceramics (NB in the first season even adjoining fragments were assigned individual registry numbers), but we also have “urn cards” with detailed records for those found in context, with or without sealed contents (see sample under images). Pottery designated as an urn had no prefix (urn number here are bold). When lids seal the urn they share the number with suffix -A; and when second lids are present, they have suffix -B. These urns are the primary type artifact of the ASOR Punic Project excavations, around which contents (amulets, bone, shell, etc.), burial markers (stelae or cippi), and adjacent urns are associated.
5590 microscopy
In the 1990s, standard Munsell Soil Color Chart readings were taken of the surface, fabric, and decoration. Whenever possible (e.g. when chipped or fragmentary), Sigma Gamma Epsilon grain size readings were taken. Recently some samples were cut into thin sections for microscopy and spectroscopy (ICP-OES), these and others underwent non-destructive X-ray fluorescence (XRF) analysis (Braekmans et al. 2023).

exhibition goals: Representative ceramics from various phases will be the central feature of the proposed exhibition, with urns loaned from the HMANE to be displayed at the Adams Gallery. Some artifacts from the O'Neil donation to HAM would be exhibited as well as some that he donated to the KMA. Images of urns used for Harden's typology, with their lids and contents—both those from the Ashmolean and the BM—would be shown at the museum and gallery.
